About the Role

The Program Assistant will provide time-bound technical and operational support to UNICEF’s Learning and Skilling (L&S) Section in Kampala.

The role focuses on data management, programme monitoring, evidence generation, and decision-making support across education and youth development programmes, particularly in refugee and host communities.

UNICEF works closely with the Government of Uganda and partners through initiatives such as:

  • Gender for Development Uganda (G4DU)
  • PROSPECTS Partnership

These programmes support girls’ education, youth skilling, protection systems, and livelihood opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

1) Data Collection & Information Management

  • Compile, validate, and organize programme data
  • Maintain structured datasets and databases
  • Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency

2) Programme Monitoring & Reporting

  • Verify and clean project datasets
  • Track implementation progress and results
  • Support quarterly and annual reports

3) Data Analysis & Evidence Generation

  • Analyze programme data and generate insights
  • Prepare presentations and analytical reports
  • Support evidence-based decision-making

4) Coordination & Partnership Support

  • Coordinate with:
    • District Local Governments (DLGs)
    • Implementing partners
    • UN agencies
  • Support multi-sectoral collaboration under PROSPECTS

5) Capacity Building & Learning

  • Support partner and stakeholder training
  • Strengthen data quality and monitoring systems
  • Provide technical support on data collection tools

Requirements

Education

  • Secondary education / High school diploma required

Experience

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in:
    • Data collection
    • Monitoring
    • Programme support
    • Data management
    • Basic data analysis
  • Experience with education, schools, or youth programmes is an added advantage

Skills

  • Strong digital skills
  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft Word
    • PowerPoint
  • Strong data organization skills

Language

  • Fluent English

Benefits

This is a full-time volunteer assignment supported by a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance and other UNV benefits to ensure a secure standard of living at the duty station.
