Job Purpose
The Project Assistant – Environment will support the implementation of environmental and livelihood interventions, focusing on climate-smart agriculture, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable natural resource management among refugee and host communities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Implementation & Sustainability
- Develop and execute annual and quarterly project activity plans.
- Provide technical support in climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, and ecosystem restoration.
- Establish and manage demonstration plots for community learning.
- Promote renewable energy solutions and sustainable livelihoods.
- Support forest restoration, afforestation, and nature-based enterprises.
2. Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Mobilize communities for environmental conservation activities.
- Conduct awareness campaigns on climate change adaptation and mitigation.
- Promote eco-friendly practices such as recycling, composting, and water conservation.
- Ensure gender balance and inclusion of vulnerable groups in project activities.
- Resolve community conflicts and strengthen ownership of initiatives.
3. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Coordinate with OPM, UNHCR, local government, and development partners.
- Participate in sector meetings, workshops, and coordination forums.
- Link farmer groups to services, markets, and government programs.
- Build strong partnerships for sustainable project impact.
4. Reporting & Knowledge Management
- Prepare and submit timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Track progress of farmer groups and support monitoring plans.
- Collect and manage data within M&E systems (LEAP database).
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and project achievements.
5. Child Protection, Gender & Inclusion
- Ensure child protection is integrated into all project activities.
- Promote gender equality and disability inclusion.
- Report child protection concerns in line with policy guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Forestry, Agroforestry, Environment, Natural Resources, Agriculture, or related field.
- At least 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable communities (humanitarian experience is an added advantage).
- Experience in landscape restoration, agroforestry, nursery or plantation management is desirable.
- Strong understanding of environmental issues in Uganda, especially Forest Landscape Restoration.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
Key Competencies
- Strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Ability to work under pressure and in diverse cultural settings.
- Must possess a valid motorcycle riding license.
- Must be a practicing Christian and active church member.
