About the Job

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is seeking a Project Director to provide overall leadership and management of a child development, care and protection project in Uganda.

The Project Director will oversee project implementation, donor compliance, partnerships, staffing, program quality, financial stewardship and coordination with government and consortium partners. The successful candidate will also provide strategic leadership to ensure the project delivers high-quality results and contributes to CRS’ work serving vulnerable communities.

Important: CRS is recruiting in anticipation of an award. Recruitment for all candidates is contingent upon successful award of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall development, implementation and close-out of the project in Uganda.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, government representatives, civil society organizations, faith-based organizations and community networks.
  • Oversee project staffing, recruitment, performance management, coaching and staff development.
  • Ensure program activities meet CRS quality standards, donor requirements and industry best practices.
  • Lead technical assistance and capacity strengthening for staff and partner organizations.
  • Oversee donor compliance, financial management, partner budgets and project expenditures.
  • Identify and promote opportunities for research, learning, innovation and knowledge sharing.
  • Develop and oversee project communication strategies and materials in line with CRS branding and donor requirements.
  • Monitor security and operational risks and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are in place.
  • Provide strategic leadership to diverse, multidisciplinary teams and consortium partners.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, international development, international relations or a related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of relevant management and health technical experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing donor funds, including multi-country grants.
  • Strong experience in budget and financial management.
  • At least 2 years’ experience managing staff, including coaching senior program staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in social work, education, health or a related field.
  • Recognized leadership in the sector through publications, conference presentations or similar professional contributions.
  • Experience engaging and strengthening partnerships with government institutions at national and sub-national levels.
  • Knowledge of CRS partnership strategies.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Strong knowledge of health-sector service delivery systems, primary health care and national health strategies.
  • Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills.
  • Proven experience leading and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, systems-thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, web conferencing tools and information and budget management systems.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Travel

The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel up to 30% to project locations and field offices outside Kampala.
